Publishing Director: Franscois McHardy

Franscois McHardy has held senior executive roles in publishing, direct marketing, education, government and the not-for-profit sector. He built and launched GeekAbility, a social enterprise focusing on digital literacy to create vocational pathways for young people with disabilities. He was a foundation team member and COO of Good360 Australia Ltd, the leading product philanthropy charity, as well as Managing Director of the CBS-owned Simon & Schuster AU, Editorial Director of the Bertelsmann-owned Doubleday Entertainment and Sales & Marketing Director of Random House.

Franscois has taught as a guest lecturer at Macquarie University and he holds postgraduate qualifications in the Arts, Education and Social Justice.

Production Manager: Elana Traurig

A Booktopia veteran, Elana is a passionate working administrator with a broad range of experience in the book industry. A passionate educator via administration and teaching careers. A musical & running weekend warrior.

Non-fiction Publisher: Jon MacDonald

With over twenty years’ experience in publishing and content creation, Jon’s natural curiosity and passion for learning sees him continually sought as a collaborator by a range of professionals. Jon has had a key role in contracting many of the Brio’s largest authors in Brio’s list and continues to actively seek out and attract talent.

Aside from his involvement with the publishing industry, Jon has a keen interest in the training and education sector to which he has contributed his expertise through a range of advisory roles.

Fiction Publisher: David Henley

David started his career on the reception desk of Hodder Headline and within a year was looking after design and video production for the marketing and publicity departments. Not long after going freelance, David partnered with Jon MacDonald to form Xou, a publishing-focussed design agency which eventually evolved into Brio

David was integral in establishing Seizure, Brio’s imprint for developing and experimental literature, and the Viva la Novella prize with his partner Alice Grundy. His trilogy of science fiction novels was originally published by HarperCollins Australia and optioned by a Sydney-based production company.

David is a keen advocate for his authors and improving the publishing industry.

Publishing Services Lead: Roy Chen

Roy Chen Graduate of the UTS Design School, his internship with Brio (then Xoum) grew into a full-time position. His skills range from design and illustration to content creation, writing and coding.

He is one of the most multi-disciplinary and ‘agnostic’ designer and illustrators we have encountered in almost 20 years of business.
